Royal Golf La Bagnaia, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Back to Italy, and more precisely near Siena, Tuscany, to visit one of the newest golf courses of the country, a masterpiece designed by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. opened in 2011.

Reaching the course is a marvelous drive itself, surrounded by the unique and charming beauties of the tuscan countryside. Sunny rolling hills, rows of vineyards, avenues of cypress and olives trees, enchanting small towns.
A magic landscape that can impress visitors so deeply as only just a few other places in the world can do.

Robert Trent Jones Jr. told me that having the chance to create a golf course on the Chianti region, the heart of Tuscany, on one of the most beautiful piece of land on the globe, has been an absolute privilege for him.
He described La Bagnaia as “different from anything else that exists in the world. It is a new style that draws from the links and parklands that can only be created here, thanks to the particular morphology of the area”
The result is an impressive golf course, one of the most successful creation he ever did where the nature is the absolute and main protagonist in true RTJ2 philosophy.

La Bagnaia is a typical Inland Links built on 130 hectares of land. The layout, a par 71 6670 yds long from the back tees, gently follows the rolling hills of the property, with undulating and ample fairways delimited by punitive native rough, change of elevations, and large greens. 90 bunkers are strategically positioned on the fairways and on protection of the greens. Four lakes come into play on four holes, three on the front nine and one on the back nine. Water must be avoided on the par 5 3rd, on the par 4 4th (the n.1 hcp hole), on the par 5 7th and on the par 5 13th.

Although challenging, the course it is enjoyable even for the less skilled players thanks to the 5 different tees on each hole.

The picturesque and majestic stone clubhouse which overlooks the course was originally an old farmhouse today completely renovated. The elegant 19th hole is a great place where to sit and relax after your round and enjoy from its balcony the breathtaking views of all 18 holes and of the town of Siena.

And if you are planning to stay for more than one day the adjacent luxury Resort offers an unmatched experience of the Tuscan Life. La Bagnaia Resort is a true medieval village transformed into a refined resort, the perfect example of the concept of uniqueness as luxury on a location where golf meets history and culture.

Even if still young La Bagnaia already hosted several national tournaments, like the 2013 Italian National Open Championship. But it has great projects for the future and even the European Tour is considering the course to host a major event.
