The Glen Club, Glenview, Illinois, Usa

Did you ever imagine you would find yourself playing 18 holes on the site of a former Naval Air Station?
This is what you may experience visiting The Glen Club, a Tom Fazio masterpiece located  in Glenview, a suburb of Chicago,  known as one of the top-rated and finest championship golf course in Illinois.

Tom Fazio crafted the course on the former grounds of the Glenview Naval Air Base, an operational U.S. Naval Air Station from 1923 to 1995 when the naval base was shut down by the orders of then President Bill Clinton and purchased by Kemper Sports Management.
Kemper turned to famed golf architect Tom Fazio to help design the course.
A reported $27 million was put into this massive project that features an 18-hole, golf course and a 48,000 square foot state-of-the-art clubhouse that greets you when you arrive on the grounds. .

The result is spectacular. The original topography has been totally transformed by Fazio and today the course features rolling terrain, elevation changes, drops of more than 40 feet, streams, mature trees, lakes, and spectacular view eveything surrounded by 75 acres of prairie grass.
After having played the course on a typical Chicago summer day it is not hard to understand why The Glen Club is today ranked among the best courses in Illinois and Top 100 courses You Can Play in the USA.

The layout is  7,149 yard long from the Golf Tees (140/74.8), challenging and masterfully-conceived,  and it offers to the golfer several memorable holes for a unique experience.
All the 4 par 3s are spectacular: a downhill tee shot on the 156 yds 4th signature hole, a long tee shot to one of the largest green on the course on the 217th 9th, another downhill tee shot to the 218yds 11th, considered one of The Glen's toughest holes, where the green is bordered by a lake and deep bunkers on its left side, and its sister, the 204 yds 17th, where a green guarded by a lake awaits your downhill and probably into the wind tee shot.

Beauties for sure, but my favorite is the picturesque 589 yds 18th, a long par 5 where two water hazards come into play. A perfect tee shot is needed to carry the lake before landing on the wide fairway. Long hitters can try with their second to reach the green guarded by some strategically placed bunkers and by a lake on the front.
An hole where you can easily score from 4 to 7, depending on your strategy.

Due to its location, easy to access from the city, and the quality of golf experience the course is able to offer, The Glen Club is a Skygolf recommended must-play course in Chicagoland.

  1. You have a golf ball or a tee engraved with a nice inscription that will be cherished by the recipient. You can inscribe the person's name, the name of their workplace, or just a memorable word or phrase. charity golf tournament
