Soon after my morning round in Torrey Pines South, on my drive back to LA from San Diego I decided to stop and play Tijeras Creek Golf which is considered one of the top high-end facilities in Orange County.
Even if I didn't have a tee time booked they let me play with a threesome right away. Checked in at the local pro shop at 1.50 pm and teed off at 2 pm.
Located just miles from Mission Viejo and Irvine, this Ted Robinson designed course, opened in 1990 and recently renovated under the supervision of Dick Bailey, is truly unforgettable, featuring two distinct nines and a collection of unique holes . The resort style demanding front nines, with water hazards and elevation changes, and the totally different scenic back nine, fun and challenging holes designed around and over the Tijeras Creek, in the rustic countryside of the Rancho Santa Margarita's hills. Great holes are the two par 3's 14th and 16th and the signature hole 17th, a 399 yds par 4 dogleg left with an elevated two-tiered green protected by the Tijeras Creek. A fun and challenging course for every golfer.
