San Domenico Golf, Puglia, Italy

A little less then 5 hours drive from Rome to reach this incredible location in Puglia, in the south-eastern tip of Italy, where I spent three days last week to take part to the last stage of the Lacoste Golf Trophy.
An impressive seaside golf course tucked away into the typical local vegetation just a few steps from Borgo Egnazia , an outstanding luxury resort built as a reproduction of a typical Puglian village (Borgo). Below you'll find some photos of it.
Traveling the world and been far from home for so long sometimes I forget the beauties of my country.

San Domenico Golf (my 70th course played) has been an unexpected surprise. It was the first time for me playing this courses, considered by many one of the best italian golf courses.
It is a true links style course, opened in 2003, and designed by European Golf Design (a golf course design company of the European Tour and IMG - i.e. Celtic Manor Twenty Ten, Dubai Creek).
Its features reminded me to the courses I played on my recent trip to Scotland.
Due to its location bordering the Adriatic Sea, viewable from almost every hole, wind can play a prevailing role, and playing here could become a really challenging test.
So challenging that every year it hosts the Apulia Grand Final, the season ending championship of the European Challenge Tour, european version of the Web.com Tour.

On the three days I played the course I experienced strong winds, heavy rain (not typical for this part of Italy) and gorgeous sunshine, and I really loved the course on every situation.
Can't wait to come back San Domenico!!
