I consider Oak Quarry Golf Club an hidden gem in SoCal, one of those courses you play and you'll never expected to be so beautiful, challenging and fun to play. Located in Riverside, just off highway 60, I played this marvelous course twice last year, in April and June.
Oak Quarry is an incredible 18 hole par 72, built around a former mineral quarry (abandoned in 1979) which supplied limestone, marble and 88 various minerals for the construction of buildings and roads in the greater LA area.
The atmosphere playing here is unique...it's seemed to me
Designed by Pga Tour star Dr. Gil Morgan and Schmidt Curley, OQ opened in 2000 and features, among its great terrific holes, the "Best Par 3 in Southern California" (Hole #14) and the "Prettiest Par 4" (Hole #4).
Course is really challenging with a CR of 73.9 and a SR of 137, and when it get windy it become even more challenging, mainly on the par 3s.
It also received many awards such as
- CGCOA’s 2012 Course of the Year
- Awarded #25 in Top 100 U.S. Courses by golflinks.com,
- Top 18 Best Courses West Coast by Fairways & Greens Magazine,
- Rated BEST Value "Worth The Green Fee" in the Inland Empire by Greenskeeper.org
- Top 10 Must Play List by the LA Times
- 4.5 Stars Rating by Golf Digest 2010/2011 Best Places to Play.
A must play course for every golfer of the area or every golfer coming to Inland Empire.
